Flexible LCD screens and laptops
Flexible LCD screen technology is going to be the next big break through in personal computing.
The first stage is already on the market by Asus-basically two tablettes joined together like a laptop, one "can" display and act as a touch screen keyboard while spare space can display images or appiications much like a second computer screen. Or if you don't need a keyboard, you have a dual screen tablette!
Well touch screens keyboards on a tablette isn't big news- but what if you could fold up you tablette into a more portable size or shape. What if like the Asus above the dual screens are continuous and it folds on itself to be self protecting like a laptop.
This is where portable computing is going. But expect to see the flip phone come back again using similar technology. Currently smart phones are quite large, but a slim flexible screen would allow phones to fold up to be less combersome.
The video below shows how a folding screen can wrap around a computer center section to provide a flexible interface, while still having space for powerfull processes and memory. But as the computing world continues to get smaller, expect processors and ram to become smaller or even flexible along with the screens!
